“2008 Sun Bowl Art Exhibit”
International Museum of Art 1212 Montana, El Paso, Texas The International Museum of Art is located in the historic Turney Mansion constructed in 1910 by famed architect Henry Trost for Texas State Senator William Ward Turney and his wife Iva. The Museum features collections from Asia and Africa, a Mexican Revolution collection including a replica of an early 20th century Mexican Casita, and artwork from local, regional, national, and international artists. The Museum also features galleries which change each month with special exhibits. The Museum’s biggest yearly exhibit is the Sun Bowl Art Exhibit.The Sun Bowl Art Exhibit is the Southwest’s longest running and most prestigious art exhibit. The Sun Bowl Art Exhibit brings artists from throughout the U.S. and beyond to El Paso every year to exhibit in this prestigious event. This year’s juror is the internationally renowned sculptor John Sherrill Houser.
The exhibit opens to the public on Friday, November 7th and runs until Friday, January 2nd. The International Museum of Art is open Thursday-Sunday from 1-5 p.m. Admission is free.

“A Christmas Fair” 2008
Sponsored By The Junior League of El Paso at the El Paso Convention Center A Christmas Fair," an annual shopping gift market, has officially kicked-off the holiday season in El Paso for the past 34 years. The event, recognized as an El Paso tradition, is staged with over 175 merchants contributing to the festivities, and an average of 15,000 shoppers. "A Christmas Fair" features special shopping events, holiday music and entertainment, photographs with Santa, and a holiday atmosphere of delight. Every region of the country is represented in this holiday fantasy, with El Paso receiving some very solid benefits from event proceeds.

Avance Heart Auction call for artists
Artists are being sought for the 8th annual “Toma Mi Corazon/Have a Heart” auction though Jan. 12. Wooden hearts may be picked up beginning Oct. 9 at Avance, 616 Virginia during regular office hours. El Paso Scene will sponsor a “Heart of El Paso” award for the heart that best represents the Spirit of El Paso, and winning entries will be featured on the February 2009 cover.
